Memory Walks

North Norfolk Fit Together Memory Walks 2018

Wednesdays at the dates below.

Memory2018

These walks are a continuing initiative to offer people with dementia, and their families, the chance to get outside more and to enjoy the local Norfolk area. Active Norfolk and the charity, North Norfolk Fit Together, has given a group of their skilled volunteer walks leaders training in enriching the lives of people living with dementia.

The short walks offer time to be outside, to feel the sun on your skin, to see the waves rolling in and to hear the seagulls or look at the trees and smell the grass. These are very short walks with a cup of tea or ice cream with friends after. No need to think—unless you want to. No need to talk—unless you want to.No need to do more than fill your lungs with the refreshing fresh air—unless you want to! There is no expectation that this will be a speedy trot. Instead it will be an amble along at a relaxing pace set by the group, with refreshments along the way or atthe end. There will be the opportunity to sit at many points. People coming on this walk may no longer have the ability to converse as they did, or even at all, but will be able to enjoy the pleasure of the sensory delights of the sea-side/parks.

It will be a gentle and a kind time and hopefully bring back some sense memories of holidays as a child and an adult. It will also offer a chance to put some wind in your sails if you are a family member or friend.

Who are the walks for?

Anyone recently diagnosed or receiving care at home or a day centre and their family, friends or carers. For anyone who still loves walking but who may have some memory obstacles of late. For anyone who would enjoy a walk in a small group, either regularly or from time to time. We welcome people also from day care centres and dementia units. Staff, family and friends can act as carers on the day. People in wheelchairs are very welcome.
